The story
The drill that does most of the day
For carpenters, electricians and plumbers the combi drill is the tool that never leaves the belt. The DHP492 drives large screws and lag bolts, bores up to 50 mm in wood with an auger bit and switches to hammer mode for wall plugs up to 16 mm in brick and block. The 13 mm metal keyless chuck takes standard shanks and hole saws up to 152 mm.
What sets it apart
Makita reworked the speed-change mechanism on this generation so the gearbox does not slip out of gear under load, and strengthened the electronics that protect the controller during variable-speed use. You get 21 clutch settings plus drill mode, an electric brake, a job light and overload protection for both tool and battery.
Part of the LXT system
It runs on any 18V LXT slide battery, from compact 2.0 Ah packs to 6.0 Ah for all-day hole sawing. Bare tool as standard, with kits that add two 5.0 Ah batteries, a charger and a MAKPAC case. A Type 2 MAKPAC inlay is available so it sits neatly with the rest of your Makita cases.
