The story
For fixing all day
Carpenters, decking crews, ceiling fitters and electricians use an impact driver more than any other tool. The DTD173 drives long timber screws and coach bolts without kickback to the wrist and still has fine control for machine screws. Its short 111 mm head gets between joists and into cabinets where a drill will not fit.
Control built in
Four electronic stages run from 1,100 to 3,600 rpm, so you can set it soft for small fixings and flat out for structural screws. The slim body sits low in the hand, the bit holder is designed to limit wobble, and an electric brake stops the bit as soon as you release the trigger. A job light shows the screw head.
Where it fits
Runs on any 18V LXT battery; a compact 2.0 Ah pack keeps it at about 1.2 kg for overhead work, while larger packs suit long days of decking and framing. In the UK it also comes as DTD173ZJX2 in a Type 2 MAKPAC with a 38-piece Impact Premier torsion bit set.
